DICKINSON - 77539
Roughly 19 miles northwest of Galveston, State Highway 3 passes through the heart of the small town of Dickinson, Texas. Named after John Dickinson, who established the town in 1850, this inviting community nestles up to the Dickinson Bayou. With many local parks, recreational areas and docks; residents enjoy getting out in the great outdoors of Dickinson. Originally dug out for shipping needs, the 20 foot deep bayou is a great attraction for fishing. In the early to mid 1900s Dickinson was home to many clubs, bars and casinos; a popular spot for Galvestonian socialites. Through the 50s and 60s, when gambling was outlawed and NASA moved in north of the town, Dickinson went through a period of population influxes. Today with League City's popularity growing, Dickinson is a hidden treasure, waiting to be found again.
